About Living History Map

Welcome to Macon, Georgia's Living History Map, managed byHistoric Macon Foundation!  This project was enabled by a generous grant from the Knight Neighborhood Challenge at the Community Foundation of Central Georgia and was funded by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.  This map exists to help you explore a few of Macon's most important historic places and also add your own stories and memories about these places.  In Macon, we truly are Living History!  Please take a moment to become a member of Historic Macon Foundation by making a small donation to encourage our work preserving, interpreting and revitalizing Macon's history.

There are several ways to explore the Living History Map:

1) Start on the Living History Map homepage and click on the images and watercolors of places on the map.  These images link to a page that includes a written history of the relevant place, a video of someone who lives in, works at or visits that space today and archival images to browse.

2) You may also click Places or People buttons on the navigation menu at the top left of every page to see a list of places included on the map or a list of people interviewed for the project.

3) For even more options, use the images along the left and right margins of the homepage.  Use the image of the video reel to see a list of at all the videos included on the map, or click the historic photo to see an album of all the archival images of included buildings, or click the "I Want You!" poster to publish your own stories or memories about one of the places on the map!

Finally, please don't leave the site without leaving a comment on one of the places included on the map.  You can do so by navigating to any page about a place on the map using the methods listed above.  We want this map to grow virally with your input.  Help us truly become a "Living" History Map by adding your own content!
